During 2013, I watched the Northwest corner of Osborn and 7th Ave transform. It started out as a run-down, vacant Korean Church. The church was renovated and beautifully restored and reopened as Taco Guild. Before ever stepping foot in the restaurant, I was already excited by the menu! At the top of the menu, it states "We are proud to partner with Arizona farms to use organic and locally grown products whenever possible." I am a big supporter of restaurants that responsibly source their ingredients!
I visited Taco Guild on a Saturday night and (free) valet was the only parking option. There was no wait for a table and me and my 3 omnivore friends were seated immediately! This place is really a beauty! Here's a photo I took of the bar while trying to not be that guy taking pictures:
Such a beautiful place with many local craft beers from Four Peaks Brewing Co, San Tan Brewing Co, Grand Canyon Brewery, and Cartel Coffee. I opted for the Cartel Coffee Brown and it was pretty damn tasty. Beer? Good. Coffee? Good. Coffee beer? Amazing!
The menu didn't seem to be overly vegan-friendly. My buddies and I started dinner with the Grilled Serrano Guacamole, which was spicy and absolutely delicious. The Grilled Seasonal Vegetable Tacos seemed to be a pretty safe bet. Though it's not listed on the menu, these are topped with cheese. I, of course, asked my server to omit any animal products from my tacos. I opted for 3 vegetable tacos, which comes with one side. I ordered Green Chile Achiote Rice as my side. My server mentioned that the rice was previously made with beef broth, but they recently switched over to vegetable broth. Score!
The verdict? Pretty good! Veggie tacos are fool-proof. Were these amazing? No, but they hit the spot. I would definitely return and order the exact same thing. My omnivore fans all loved the food they ordered! Plus, Taco Guild scored some major points by spelling "chile" correctly. As a former resident of New Mexico, I quickly learned that chili is a bowl of beans and veggies (and sometimes animal flesh), and chile is the roasted pepper that you smother on anything and everything.
